In the article "Bollywood Confidential" found in the New York Times, Suketu Mehta writes about her love of Bollywood films. She explains that those native to India especially take pride in the Bollywood films - as there culture as well as traditional singing and dance is displayed through musicals. Starting in the 1950's Indian movies grew in popularity. The movie industry is extremly important to the country, as they are known for producing even more movies per year than Hollywood. As Mehta writes, it was a huge deal going to a Bollywood film, and the audience was always encouraged to interact with the screen playing before them. With a belief that spoken words can never fully explain emotion, the light-hearted musicals performed in the films - being that there are always atleast 5-14 - capture the audience and leave them always in good spirits.
